The Original-size White Cat House cover features a design that feels like you’re peeking in on the tiny, adorable lives of a white cat and other small animals. The original illustration is based on the dollhouse theme that has become a hallmark of Kitagishi’s work. The artwork was painted in acrylic gouache and printed on a polyester material that vividly captures the original colors and texture.
What makes Kitagishi’s work so fascinating is that it’s endlessly adorable, no matter which corner you zoom in on. Lovable motifs are scattered throughout, such as the animals who live in the house; the wallpaper, furniture, and other interior decor; and even the dishes and small accessories on the tabletop. Every time you look, you’ll find something new to delight in.
In contrast to the vibrant, red-based design on the front, the inner surface where the book slides in is designed to resemble fresh, pale green wallpaper. The right-side pocket features a white cat playing with a dollhouse. The “butterfly-stopper” pen holders are designed in the style of Tyrolean tape adorned with delicate flowers, and the bookmark is a simple ribbon.
A row of windows of different shapes lines the back of the cover. Peek inside the pocket, and you’ll discover a delightful surprise — you can see the rooms within the windows.
