Equipped with the new “FLAF” nib.
The journey to pursue the ideal fountain pen that began with “#3776” continues beyond “#3776 CENTURY .” “#3776 CENTURY Travia” now proudly features the newly engineered FLAF nib, highly acclaimed on the “#3776 CENTURY DECADE.” Its sharper, more acute tip delivers a new writing experience supple and smooth as if gliding across the paper.
FLAF Nib Features
When we evaluate and compare the nib’s flex response, the study shows that the FLAF nib delivers a softer flex than the current #3776 CENTURY “F.” (In other words, the FLAF nib flexes with less force than the current nib.) In addition, while the #3776 CENTURY “F” and “SF” used for comparison show a bow-shaped curve characteristic, the FLAF nib shows a more linear curve response̶flexing in direct proportion to the force applied. This means the line changes as intended with writing pressure, making the FLAF nib easier to control and fine-tune in feel.
Beyond the Tradition.
“Travia” is a coined name combining T radition and V ia(meaning "path" in Latin). Built on the heritage of writing culture shaped by those who came before us, “#3776 CENTURY Travia” represents an evolving road that extends straight into the future.
The Beginning of the Story - The #3776 Lineage
In 1978, Platinum Pen developed the “#3776” as the ideal fountain pen together with the late Haruo Umeda, a novelist and fountain-pen collector. Named after Mt. Fuji’s altitude 3,776 meters, the "#3776" was launched with a sing le ambition: to create Japan ’s finest fountain pen.
In 2011, the “#3776 CENTURY” was introduced, featuring the groundbreaking Slip & Seal Mechanism to overcome one of the biggest problem of fountain pen ink drying out. With enhanced reliability for everyday use and improved writing performance, "#3776 CENTURY" grew into one of Platinum’s iconic series. Then, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the “#3776 CENTURY,” the “#3776 CENTURY DECADE” was launched. It incorporated the gathered design icon of the “#3776”in 1978̶into the body and adopted a flat-top silhouette. "#3776 CENTURY DECADE" was also equipped with a newly developed nib, whose supple, flexible feel signaled another milestone in Platinum’s ongoing fountain-pen innovation.
